About us

We fell in love four years ago and are thrilled to welcome you to our wedding on September 9th! A little bit about us for those whom we both haven’t yet met…

Martha is lifelong educator. She was a teacher, a college professor, a dean and senior college administrator who served as President Obama’s Under Secretary of Education in the Obama for five years. Before that, she was chancellor of the Foothill-De Anza Community College District in the heart of Silicon Valley, one of the largest community college districts in the nation. After leaving the government to become a Distinguished Visiting Professor of Higher Education at New York University’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development, Martha launched the College Promise Campaign. She contends that a high school education is no longer sufficient for a 21st Century future, but rising college costs are endangering access and success for more and more students. She is committed to increasing the economic and social benefits of expanding educational opportunity by helping communities and states fund at least the first two years of college at little or no cost.
