Hotels and logistics

Dear Family and Friends,

Last minute updates:

The good news is there no rain in the forecast! The dinner is outside and note that after the high of 71  during the day the temperature is supposed to drop to 54 at some point.

The ceremony has a classical quartet, but the dinner and dancing will be hosted by Spencer Bates, one of DC’s top piano bar performers. Get your requests ready!

Finally out of town guests who we’ve invited to stop in at our open house on Sunday morning from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. can take our shuttle bus from the two wedding hotels, the Hilton and the Normandy that will run every 20 minutes. Note that the Hilton has two entrances. Our shuttle leaves from the lower entrance NOT the round driveway above. If you are coming to the open house it’s tough to park in our neighborhood.

Martha and Ira

We are thrilled to welcome you to our wedding web site.

The wedding will take place in a lovely historic mansion in the Dupont Circle area of Washington, D.C. We hope you will join us for the wedding ceremony, dinner, and dancing to celebrate our life together.

As we mentioned in the invitation, we will have valet parking at the wedding location and the location is a short walk from the wedding hotels below. It’s a pretty uphill walk and taxis may be easier.

Added July 22: In response to several questions, we envision the dress that night as being jackets, ties optional. It could be warm.

For those coming from afar, you can make a reservation at special rates at either of two hotels for Friday, September 8th through Sunday, September 10th by calling one of the hotels and asking for the Kanter/Teinowitz block.

The hotels are:

The Normandy Hotel
2118 Wyoming Avenue, NW
Washington DC  20008
202-483-1350

$129 Queen or double

The Washington Hilton
1919 Connecticut Avenue, NW
Washington DC  20008
202-483-3000

$169 King or double Queen

Note, there are several Hiltons in Washington. The Washington Hilton is the Hilton brand hotel that is nearest the wedding site. The Courtyard Marriott (across the street from the Hilton) as of July also had some reasonable rates. Other hotels a short cab ride away include: The Fairfax at Embassy Row, Kimpton’s Palomar and the more expensive, but lovely Jefferson Hotel.
Updated Aug. 26: The Hilton has dropped its prices for the Friday and Saturday night of the wedding weekend (not for Thursday).  We are talking to the Hilton about dropping the rates for everyone, but meanwhile if you already booked there, you might want to check back and see if you can get the lower rate.  At least for the moment, the general rate is now lower than the $169 above and AAA, senior and AARP rates are even lower than the general rate. If you are a member of the Hilton’s frequency program (which is free to join), the rates are even less.  If you are driving to Washington, watch the hotels’ parking rates. It appears you only can get the most discounted rate for Friday night and Saturday night reservations. It’s not available for three-night reservations.
For those from out of town: We are having an open house Sunday morning at our house at 1842 Ontario Pl NW for those from out of town who we less often get a chance to see. It’s from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. You should have received an Evite invitation.
It is difficult to park in our neighborhood so we will be running a small shuttle bus service from the Washington Hilton and the Normandy to the house. Note that the Washington Hilton has entrances at two levels. The shuttle departs from the lower level (on T street, NOT the circular drive at the upper entrance).
